Former Day Care Owner Jailed For Leaving Child In A Hot Van

Introduction

A former daycare owner has been ordered to spend four months in jail under a manslaughter charge as the court found her responsible for the death of a 2-year-old boy in a hot van.

As per the court documents, in September 2016, the daycare owner picked up the toddler, his 8-year-old brother and other children and took them to Vision of Life Academy located in Miami.

She said that she was running late for a meeting, so she rushed inside the building and asked another employee to get the children out of the van. An employee found the boy inside the van after more than six hours. The court papers even reported that the daycare was not licensed to transport children.

An autopsy report determined that the boy died of heatstroke, and paramedics said he was bleeding from the nose and ears.

The mother of the boy wrote in a letter to Circuit Judge Laura Stuzin that her child's death has left a huge void in their life, which is impossible to fill. She even said that the boy's siblings are not the same children they used to be before the incident.

The daycare owner will not be allowed to work caring for or supervising children in the future, considering the incident. The defendant is still firm on her statement that she is innocent despite the plea agreement. The lady is even ordered to serve ten years of probation for the incident.
